"Escaping from Misinformation"

VR Escape Room

The VR Escape Room: Escaping from Misinformation uses immersive, game-based learning to help participants recognize and respond to misinformation. Adapted from Loki’s Loop, the VR experience places users in a simulated escape room where they solve puzzles based on real-world misinformation challenges such as misleading headlines, manipulated visuals, and emotional persuasion.

Developed at the UHM Immersive Media Lab in collaboration with the Loki's Loop team at the University of Washington, the project leverages VR affordances, such as presence, interactivity, and spatial storytelling, to promote critical thinking through active problem-solving. The project was shared at an interactive workshop at HICSS 2026, serving as both a dissemination venue and a living laboratory for exploring immersive pedagogy and misinformation education.
